So that’s the culprit in all of the recent plumbing woes, an impressive 6’ long crack in the cast iron stack that has been leaking in secret for who knows how long and only recently came to our attention thanks to the deluge of rain last week.
Kudos to the plumber who did a fantastic job and had a sense of humour to boot. Encourage kids to go into the trades – as long as there are old houses there will always be work.
I’m so glad it was found and dealt with. And it’s been my experience that the young folks going into the trades these days are a cheerful, hard-working, capable bunch. I enjoy having them in the house, though am usually unhappy with the problem they came to fix.
By the way — You were right about WordPress being a good fit for what I do. I’m going to be setting up here instead of at Substack.

I’m seeing more young people in the trades too – it’s nice that they have the benefit of being up to date on the latest and haven’t been worn down yet 😆
I’m really glad you like it here – may take a bit to get lots of followers but well worth it in the long run.

So sorry to hear of your woes. At least it was discovered. And you got an art-worthy photo of it!

I must have a guardian angel for plumbing issues. It’s all fixed except for new gyproc and paint to make things look like they did before 😀
