For the past few days Across the Bored has been coping with some technical difficulties stemming from an upgrade to Mountain Lion that incapacitated our various computers simultaneous internet access. Leaving us more than a little aggravated with technology that hasn’t had all the bugs completely worked out and being from the school of turn it on and it works perfectly every time, you can imagine our frame of mind when we logged in this morning and figured out what the New Year’s resolution in the R&D department of virtual reality was – change everything that was working fine to something completely different that will aggravate everyone already having to deal with getting back to a normal routine… Anyone else out there a little, to be politically-correct, perturbed by the recent changes in the reader? Now I’m not one to stand in the way of innovation but there is a difference between needless tweaking and substantial improvements – new posts on the right, no – move all the images to the left and crop them into partial crap, blog names and post titles on top of the images, no – that’s no good – put them below where we really have to search for them; put the LIKE in bold , no – smaller font – no bigger, bolder font – no make it into a star… and why are the tags in a position of prominence BEFORE the title of the post and why can you not get directly to the page where the blog is anymore without having to navigate all over the place? With all those lovely new icons on the upper right in the toolbar, why can’t one of them lead directly to the dashboard… Isn’t anyone aware of the 3 clicks and you’re dead rule?
HANG ON – MORE CHANGE TO COME – WE’RE NOT FINISHED YET
Someone in a dark back room has a whole lot of time on their hands, so like the inimitable Charlie Brown said…
I use the reader mainly on my phone and this has not really changed. On the website though navigating to new posts and not using their quick post system is more convoluted than it once was. I have had technical issues with my Mic and internet this week maybe the great internet has the flu.

I always thought upgrades were supposed to simplify things – the Professor put forward that there may be a few in the office trying to justify their existence (and weekly pay check) then again it may be just a bunch of twenty-somethings with no knowledge of ergonomics… time will tell!

I would say that upgrades always promise an easier life and some times it is true, but then again i go by the odd even rule of Star Trek films and Windows OS. Windows 95 = good, 98 = bad 2000/xp (basically the same) = good, vista = bad seven= good. You can see where I am going to go with windows 8.

Even Mac is getting sloppy with their upgrades – not a good sign…

Exactly how I feel about the recent changes….. The ‘updated’ WP is so clunky. It’s now harder to get to the dashboard & browse the ‘reader’.

I would be curious to see how many people out of the “millions” of WP users feel the same way…

i haven’t spent much time on WP this past week, but I agree about the reader.. One sees the post and has no idea whose it is until you get to the bottom… I had trouble deciding which image went with each title. There are no thumbnails to show the essence of what’s there, so i’m not really tempted to go to the post…. you’re right, the images are cropped and some are not to the best.
i agree, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with the old system, but i suppose it’s like a supermarket rearranging the shelves, there’s some new strategy at work!
your post made ma chuckle; i’m sorry that you’re having a frustrating week and hope that things get better soon!

Way more than usual and most of it is coming from the same addresses repeatedly – most annoying!

Thank goodness someone else agrees with me – I wonder how much buzz these changes are really getting. Some might surmise that this is a make-work project!

maybe we should send them some feedback…

I had contacted support about a similar issue – I’ll have to check whether they ever answered…

The not being able to get to my dashboard easily is my top peeve although you have listed some others. Three clicks and you’re dead. Haha! (If only :) )

Thanks for the laugh – maybe there will be something new in the morning to look forward to!

Thank you, thank you, thank you–for saying all this for me (and I SO LOVE the nods to my fave characters!!). I know that my resolutions and goals have been related to praising God in every situation–well, all I can come up with is that my mind is apparently more nimble than I thought, a week ago. No small thing, by any measure–however, I have BETTER THINGS TO DO WITH MY TIME THAN CHASE WP’S CHANGES all over my computer screen!!! Sigh….moving over to my couch now, thanks again!
